Welcome

Welcome! Thank you for taking the time to visit my web-site to learn more about me. Your interest is sincerely appreciated.

It has been my privilege to represent District 76, Rowan County, in the North Carolina State House of Representatives for the last 5 terms. I am honored that my constituents reelected me in 2018 with 62% of the votes cast.

During my service to District 76, I have had the privilege of drafting, sponsoring and co-sponsoring some of the most historic legislation in our state’s history. I was the primary sponsor of the 2013 Voter ID bill (V.I.V.A.), requiring a photo id for in-person voting. I was the primary sponsor of the  Unemployment Reform bill that repaid a $2.85 billion debt to the federal government, 5 years ahead of schedule, saving state employers hundreds of millions of dollars and putting people back to work. Additionally, I was the primary sponsor of HB 36 E-Verify, requiring employers to check the legal status of their new hires, to protect jobs for our citizens. It has been my privilege to vote for many bills protecting personal property rights and defending our Constitutional Second Amendment rights.

Because our economic policies and conservative regulatory reforms have proven to be correct and are producing such positive results, I am committed to ensuring the state remains true to the course we have set for its economic and social growth. This course is based on sound conservative principles that promise a bright future for our children and for future generations.

I believe that government should adhere to its constitutional mandate. Government should be as large as necessary to fulfill its constitutional obligations but never large enough to be obtrusive to our personal freedoms or challenging to our civil or constitutional rights.

We must also recognize that we are a state both blessed and challenged with great diversity of topography, population and culture. As such, our laws must be considerate of all people regardless their religious or political ideologies and beliefs. We cannot legislate from the pulpit, nor can we legislate the pulpit away. Our laws must be respectful of, and pertinent to, the secular and social requirements of the people. However, we should never abandon the traditional values or common-sense decency that our country was founded upon.

There is much to be done to build upon the initiatives we have started. Additional reforms are needed to continue improving education, taxation reduction, regulatory requirements and to address the impacts of healthcare and energy costs. I pledge to continue to work hard and remain accessible and attentive to your opinions on the issues.

As the only candidate with more than 30 years of business experience in 3 different industries and a very successful track record as a legislator, I’m asking for your support. Please explore the rest of this site and feel welcome to send any questions you have to me. My campaign remains a grassroots movement, supported by and comprised of concerned citizens, just like you.
